ROUNDO
Delivers World’s Largest Angle Bending Roll
ROUNDO,
recognized around the world as the leading manufacturer of plate
and angle bending rolls, has announced the completion and
successful installation of the largest angle bending roll ever
built, the Model R-16S.
The first unit was purchased by a large rolling company in
England, who has been using the machine to roll massive sections
for the stadiums and other venues for the 2012 Olympic Games in
London.
The Model R-16S has the capacity to roll up to 44” beams both
the easy way (Y-Y axis) and the hard way (X-X axis). During the
machine test and run-off performed for the customer at the
ROUNDO complex in Sweden, the Model R-16S rolled an HEB 1000
beam, equivalent to a W40” x 211 pound beam, to a radius under
100’ with virtually no distortion. In fact, the new owner of
the machine told ROUNDO that there was no need to continue
rolling the beam to a tighter radius, since no one would ask for
such a large beam to be rolled any smaller, and since the
machine itself had actually exceeded the promised rolling
capacity.
The ROUNDO Model R-16S is equipped with ROUNDO’s Windows-based
CNC control which controls the positioning of the main bending
rolls, the rotational feeding of the machine, and the left and
right side guide rolls, each with 3 axes of movement. In
addition, the CNC controls movement and pressure of the
hydraulic beam-on-edge attachment, used to pull the back flange
of the beams being rolled to keep the beam in tension,
preventing the collapse of the web and allowing the beam to be
rolled to a smaller radius then would otherwise be possible. The
ROUNDO CNC software is written in-house by bending roll people
for bending roll people, making it user friendly for the
operator on the shop floor, yet so powerful that engineers can
link the machine with their CAD systems and download programs
directly to the machine.
ROUNDO bending rolls from Sweden are distributed by Trilogy
Machinery, Inc., their exclusive North American agent. Trilogy
personnel have over 100 years of experience working with Roundo
bending rolls, and are responsible for supporting and servicing
over 4,000 Roundo rolls currently in use throughout the United
States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. The web site for
